Thinking about relocating to the Gulf Coast? The best way to understand Southwest Florida is to drive it. Flying into PGD or RSW and renting a car lets you tour neighborhoods on your own schedule — no rideshare surge pricing, no waiting. Here's a route that covers the highlights in a long weekend.
Start in Cape Coral, known for its canal-front homes and quiet, family-friendly streets. Cross the bridge into Fort Myers for the historic River District, McGregor Boulevard's royal palms, and easy beach access at Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel.
Head north to Punta Gorda, a walkable waterfront town with a growing food scene and harbor views, then explore Port Charlotte for more space and value. The drive up US-41 and I-75 is quick and scenic.
Finish to the south through Estero and Bonita Springs — both popular with new arrivals — and into Naples for upscale shopping and some of the best beaches in the state.
